🚀 Innovation Showcase

Important: The services demonstrated below are not commercially available systems. They are prototype demonstrations designed to showcase the potential of phone-based AI in healthcare and to inspire innovation in primary care accessibility.

What is DIAL?

DIAL (Digital Inclusion Access Line) is a groundbreaking campaign to transform how patients access primary care services through innovative phone-based AI technology. Our mission is to ensure that every patient can access clinical systems and healthcare information, regardless of their technological capabilities or circumstances.

The Challenge: Millions of patients, particularly elderly individuals and those from underserved communities, struggle to access digital healthcare services due to lack of internet access, limited smartphone capabilities, digital literacy barriers, and language barriers that prevent effective communication with healthcare providers. Additionally, many GP practices are increasingly using online triage systems which can exclude large patient groups, leading to long waits on telephone lines and disproportionate access to healthcare.

DIAL bridges this gap by providing a normal telephone number that patients can call to access AI-powered healthcare services. Patients can speak directly with AI systems to complete GP-implemented triage using voice only, with no need for internet ability or access. This approach combines the universal accessibility of traditional telephone systems with cutting-edge AI technology to provide truly inclusive healthcare access that reaches every patient where they are.

GP Triage Demo Service - Full Triage with History

Comprehensive clinical assessment system that conducts thorough symptom evaluation using NICE and NHS standards. The AI systematically checks for red flags, provides comprehensive questioning and answers based on patient responses, and includes double-checking mechanisms to ensure accuracy and patient safety.

Key Features:

  • Red Flag Detection: Systematic screening for urgent medical conditions requiring immediate attention
  • NICE/NHS Compliance: All interactions follow established NICE guidelines and NHS clinical standards
  • Comprehensive Q&A: Dynamic questioning that adapts based on patient responses and symptom patterns
  • Verification Process: Double-checking important information with patients to ensure accuracy
  • Clinical Decision Support: Evidence-based recommendations for appropriate care pathways

This demonstrates how AI can support clinical decision-making while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and following established healthcare protocols.

💡 Testing Instructions

Try the system with these suggested demo patients (or create your own):

  • Patient 1: Sarah Johnson, DOB: 15/03/1985
  • Patient 2: Robert Chen, DOB: 22/11/1967
  • Or: Use any name and date of birth you prefer

🎯 Challenge the System! Try to catch it out in any way you want:

  • Say "It's for my daughter" or another family member
  • Try "I don't want to talk to a robot"
  • Use challenging language or be uncooperative
  • Give confusing or contradictory symptoms
  • Test edge cases and unusual scenarios
  • See how it handles difficult patient interactions
  • Ask it to speak in a different language or start speaking in another language and see if it understands!

The more you challenge it, the better you'll understand its capabilities and limitations!

Important: This is a test-only system for proof of concept and does not connect with any patient-facing systems. As with all new systems, full governance would need to be conducted before real-world use.

Usage: Structured clinical assessment following NHS triage protocols with advice and guidance

Status: PROOF OF CONCEPT ONLY - This demonstration is designed purely for testing and to showcase technological possibilities. It is NOT a real healthcare tool and must never be used for actual medical advice or patient care. This is a conceptual prototype created to inspire healthcare providers and system suppliers to explore the potential of voice-enabled AI in healthcare delivery.

The Vision for Primary Care

🎯 Immediate Impact

Phone-based AI services can immediately improve access for underserved populations, reduce administrative burden on healthcare staff, and provide 24/7 basic healthcare support.

🔮 Future Possibilities

As these technologies mature, we envision comprehensive voice-enabled clinical systems that can:

  • Conduct preliminary health assessments
  • Provide personalized health education in multiple languages
  • Facilitate remote monitoring for chronic conditions
  • Enable secure access to personal health records via voice
  • Support care coordination between providers

🤝 Healthcare Equity

By leveraging universal phone access, DIAL ensures that technological advancement in healthcare serves to reduce, rather than increase, health disparities.
